Chevron’s Pascagoula refinery partnered with the Mississippi Gulf Fishing Banks to donate equipment that will be used as artificial reefs offshore.
Five carbon steel structures from a recent refinery project were slated to be recycled when a Chevron employee suggested repurposing the equipment as artificial reefs.
The structures were uncoated and underwent an extensive environmental evaluation before being donated to make sure they will promote a healthy ecosystem.
Chevron also donated $30,000 to the MGFB to support the deployment of the reefs this summer.
